Could the breakup of Samsung and Android become a reality?
The recent rumors stem from Samsung seeking the ability to have more control over their hardware and software. And of course, an even bigger motivation is to make more money.
So, which OS would provide these benefits? Potentially Tizen OS.
According to Tizen’s website, they are:
“ …an open and flexible operating system built from the ground up to address the needs of all stakeholders of the mobile and connected device ecosystem, including device manufacturers, mobile operators, application developers and independent software vendors (ISVs). Tizen is developed by a community of developers, under open source governance, and is open to all members who wish to participate.”
The operating system is also backed by Intel, which gives it a great competitive advantage when entering the mobile industry.
Samsung isn’t the only one trying to ditch Android. Huawei is taking the steps towards dropping the operating system as well in hopes to create their own. With help from prior Nokia developers, they believe they could go head-to-head with iOS and Android. Huawei may even seek out Apple designers to completely restructure its current EMUI Android skin.
1. Lack of quick adaptability.
Due to iOS and Android being well known, dominant, operating systems, it’ll be challenging to sway people to move towards a new system. However, if Samsung and Huawei users remain loyal, they can still secure some usage/downloads.
A new operating system will likely need mobile apps developed specifically for the platform – but this won’t be an easy process. That’s why other operating systems, such as Blackberry and Windows, have a shortage of apps. This is not to say, in the particular case of Tizen, that Android apps couldn’t run on this system, but it won’t be a smooth integration process.
We’re looking forward to following the updates and advantages to come with the potentially new operating systems, and we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.
